ONLINE PROTEST EVENTS

Action 1

For starting the virtual sitin open your browser and type the following URL in your browser window:

https://rwedecarbon.bsite.net

After a short while this page will open pop up nine tiny pop-up windows and begin visiting some pages on RWE.com repeatedly and automatically.

Press the STOP bottom in case you do not wish to continue the virtual protest. In case your browsers blocks the pop-up windows of this online protest you have to allow the pop-up windows of the virtual sitin webpage ("Always Allow") and reload the page into your browser. Leave the browser window open as the virtual sitin continues. You should be able to do other things on your computer at the same time or just go for a walk in the fresh air. The virtual sitin tool runs unattended for an hour or longer.

Do not use Torbrowser to avoid high load on the Tor nodes.

It is recommended to use a VPN connection when taking part in this online protest.

You find some help on VPN here Link to VPN help page

Effects: Only thousand people using the virtual sitin tool at the same time will affect the servers of target and loading their pages slows down. If only few people use it there are still some effects: 1) while RWE Power AG wants people to visit their green energy pages, the traffic statistics after attack show more interest in damages from mining, 2) their server logs are flooded with repetitive requests showing that something is out of control, and 3) the public reputation of target is damaged (in the case of RWE they don't seem to care).
Risks: The risk for you is very low. When using a VPN connection you should be totally safe. No damages are done to the computers of target. The delays of their service are probably marginal.

Action 2

Send RWE Power AG a bunch of emails through their contact form!

iMacros is a browser based application for macro recording, editing and playback for web automation and testing.

iMacros is an extension for the Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browser which was designed to automate the most repetitious tasks on the web. Here you can send RWE Power AG a bunch of emails through their contact form.

First, install the iMacros add-on to your browser. Find our installation guide here. After you installed the iMacros extension in your browser you will see the iMacros icon next to the navigation field. Clicking on the button opens the iMacros sidebar or pop-up window.

Second, download the zip folder with the iMacros script for Firefox and Chrome.

Download RWE_contact_imacros.zip

Third, open readme-imacro.txt, included in the zip folder with a notepad and follow the instructions.

After a few steps you will get it up and running!

It is recommended to invent a new name and email address each time you are using the macro. A single-use or throw-away email address can be generated here (English) or here (German). Use the Torbrowser for this.

Effects: The mailbox of the PR officials of RWE gets filled with contact requests which disturbs them and slows down their workflow.
Risks: The risk for you is low. The iMacros script also works with a VPN connection. Personal data in the contact form is invented. There is a chance that the IP address is logged together with the contact form. But even if they identify you, blame the browser automation or say that it happened accidentally.

Action 3

Order free product catalogs for RWE Power AG

Sending product catalogs from various branches to the headquarters of RWE Power AG will fill up their postboxes and create some chaos.

Free product catalogs can be ordered on the websites 123kataloge.de or katalog.com. For the order only the name, address and email needs to be filled. For the catalogs that you order through their shopping cart, 123kataloge.de distributes a confirmation email, which requires a valid email address. For most other catalogs one is directed to the company pages that usually do not require a valid email address. Most catalog order forms work in Torbrowser.

A single-use or throw-away email address can be generated guerrillamail.com (English) or txen.de (German). Use the Torbrowser for this.

Use the name field in the order form to give RWE a hint that the receipt of junk mail relates to their coal extraction. Ideas for names are:
Frau/Herr Lütze Rath, Lützi Bleibt, Lützi Lebt, etc. Invent a new name for different orders.
If there is a name field for company, enter RWE Power AG.

RWE Power AG has two headquarters. Use one of them in the address field. Change the address for different orders.

The idea for this action was posted by an anonymous group on Indymedia: "RWE's Bürokratie stören" (German).

Effects: The postboxes of RWE Power AG get filled up with catalogs. There will be some confusion about who ordered the catalogs and it will take them some time and effort to stop the flood of postal junk mail.
Risks: The risk for you is very low. Most catalogs can be ordered using Torbrowser. Do not give your private email or phone number in the order forms.

Action 4

Spread The Word - Get Active

STEP 1: A little Twitterstorm: Click this link and you'll automatically create a Tweet calling out RWE:

Hey @RWE_AG, The coal under Lützerath is not needed to ensure security of supply. Lützerath is not for sale. Exit from coal now! https://bit.ly/3EkXAp5 #LützerathBleibt #RWEenteignen #ZADRheinland #Netzdemo

STEP 2:  Support the Lützerath occupation and ZAD Rhineland with a donation to Lützerath or to Ende Gelände for covering their costs for this year's mass action.

STEP 3:  Check your supplier of electricity at home. Change today to an alternative supplier that produces renewable energies. This is probably your personal action that causes most economic damage to RWE Power AG.

STEP 4: Ask your friends to join in!
